This post is just here to let everyone know that WiiRant is now under new ownership.

My name is Phil and I have a great passion for everything related to Nintendo. I am hoping to take over where Mike left off (thanks for all your hard work Mike), and include the latest Wii News and add some more game reviews over the coming months.

Mario Super Sluggers not for baseball purists

Riding hot on the heels of 2K Sports’ MLB Power Pros 2008 comes Mario Super Sluggers, Nintendo’s own unique shot at representing my favourite sport: baseball.

Before you get too excited though, don’t be fooled into thinking that this game is anything other than a typically light Nintendo title. You won’t find a Major League Baseball or an MLB Players’ Association endorsement emblazoned on the box. In fact, the only players you’ll find modeled on this Wii production come directly from Nintendo’s extensive bullpen of MVPs.

In fact, Mario Super Sluggers is undoubtedly a barefaced attempt to cash in on the lucrative sports and casual gaming genres, but you can’t fault them for trying. More often than not, Nintendo develops a thoroughly respectable attempt at whatever sporting genre they take aim at, and Mario Super Sluggers is no exception - bar a few unsightly burrs here and there.

Nintendo offers answers to Wii Fit shortage

We all knew that when Nintendo were about to release their Wii Fit we might have to queue up for a while to get your hands on one. However; we did not realize how popular it would actually be.

Since its launch the balance board has been out of stock more than in stock, and many thought that it was a marketing ploy just to make the Wii Fit more popular than it actually was. If that was their plan, then it worked perfectly.

Now Nintendo have decided to issue a statement, strangely on MTV, explaining why the Wii Fit has not been available in stores.

In brief the statement said that the consumer response to the Nintendo Wii Fit was historically exceptional, they said that they are now providing retailers with a constant supply of ‘Wii Fit,’ so you should see a regular supply of ‘Wii Fit’ on store shelves.

Nintendo introduces Wii Music’s instruments one at a time

On the Japanese Wii Music website, Nintendo has begun a series of videos called “Today’s Musical Instrument,” which depicts an instrument both in its for-real form and as it will appear in Wii Music.

The first video features the marimba: after some introductory text, we’re treated to footage of a model pretending to use the Wiimote and Nunchuk as mallets playing an invisible instrument. This is followed by Wii Music footage of the same instrument. It’s a cute video and a happy little tune.

The Nintendo Wii is unlike any other gaming console ever used before. It is small and powerful and is even helping people to lose weight and get fit by getting them out of their seats to play.


So far, the games for Nintendo Wii have made great use of the unique motion-sensitive controllers. Games for Nintendo Wii like Wii Sports, which incorporates the controller in such an active way that it is easy to just pick up and play, even for people who have never played a console game before.
In Wii Sports, the controllers act as a tennis racket, a golf club, a bowling ball launcher, and even boxing gloves! These games are great fun for people of all ages and even allows some to increase their level of fitness.

Will It Blend? - Wii Remote

This guy must love his job as you can tell by the expression on his face, love the old guy at the end “What you say?” lol… awesome. There has been lots of Will It Blend commercials on YouTube and when I was searching for cool Wii stuff I came across this.

Pretty funny and a great idea for promoting the blender while not so great for the Wii mote, they are not cheap that’s for sure.

Samurai Shodown II coming for Virtual Console

On August 4th, 2008 for 900 Wii points you’ll finally be able to get Samurai Shodown II on your Nintendo Wii. I own the original Samurai Shodown for the Super Nintendo and its up there with my other favorite fighter game Street Fighter.

You can already get the first Samurai Shodown on the Wii but the second is a great addition to the Virtual Console.Samurai Shodown II is considered to be SNK’s best game, the fighting system is very different from many other fighter games released during that time period.

Players can duck, hop, carry a weapon, parry and perform various offensive and defensive moves to defend themselves in battle. I believe there is 16 characters in the game each with their own moves, attacks and weapon.

Man in China kidnaps himself to get a Wii

That’s right a man living in China came up with the idea to kidnap himself in order to himself a Nintendo Wii. The man’s name is Yang and when he could not afford to buy a Wii he decided to come up with a plan that would involve himself getting kidnapped by two fake people in order for him to get a Wii.

His ransom was 10,000 Yuan (AUD $1570) which would be more then enough to pay for his troubles and get himself a Nintendo Wii with games and accessories. He did this because he could not afford to buy a Nintendo Wii and his parents would not buy him one. Nothing else has come from this news story.
